Scenic Rafting Trips

Alaska Scenic Rafting Trips

The Gulkana system was designated as wild and scenic by the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act in 1980.  The stretch of the Gulkana River used for our trips is Class I and Class II as per the internationally accepted rating system.  Our experienced guides know the Gulkana allowing for a safe and secure trip.  We offer two half day trips and a full day trip.  Our trips are perfect for the whole family including young children.  The abundance wild life along the Gulkana makes every bend in the river an opportunity to experience nature.  Wild life along the river include moose, eagles, caribou, beaver, bear, and a variety of birds.  The Gulkana River is prime nesting habitat for the bald eagle and you will see several nests along the trip.  It is common to see several dozen bald eagles, both overhead and perched along the river.   Of course, we can not guarantee what you will see because it is WILD life.

Our private fishing club is right on the Gulkana River.

Half Day Scenic Rafting trips on the Gulkana River

Our half day scenic rafting trips leave from our park and you float down to the Gulkana River bridge.  You are picked up at the bridge and returned to our park.  The trips take about 4 hours and include one night stay in our RV park.  If you don't have a RV, feel free to pitch a tent or tents in your RV space.  We also have two cabins available for an additional charge.

Our morning trip leaves our park at 7:30 and is over around 11:30.  The trip includes an ice chest with ice and water.  You are welcome to bring your own drinks and food.  This trip is designed for you to arrive at the park in the afternoon the day before.  You spend the night in one of our sites and then take your morning trip.  Check out time will be when you return to the park.   No fishing is allowed unless you also take a guided fishing trip.

Our afternoon trip leaves our park at 2:00 and is over around 6:00.    Our guide will have an ice chest with ice and water.  You are welcome to bring your own drinks and food.  This trip is designed for you to arrive at the park between 1:00 and 2:00 o'clock.  Your trip will leave the park at 2 o'clock and you will be returned to the park at 6 o'clock.  You can enjoy our park for the rest of the day and the next morning.  Noon is our check out time.  No fishing is allowed unless you also take a guided fishing trip.

Our half day scenic rafting trips are $195 for up to 4 people.

Our raft comfortably seats 4 guests with room to spare.

Full Day Scenic Rafting trips on the Gulkana River

Our full day trips allows for the most opportunities to see wild life in all it's glory.  It passes through more remote and less traveled areas of the Gulkana River.  The trips starts at 7:30am when we transport you from our RV park to Sourdough and you spend the day with our experienced guide floating down the Gulkana.  The trip ends back at our RV park at around 4:30 in the afternoon.  The guide will make periodic stops for nature calls and to allow you to stretch your legs.  There will also be a stop for lunch around mid-trip.  The full day trip includes an ice chest with ice, water, and lunch.  We include two nights stay in our RV park with this trip.  This allows you to arrive in the afternoon and spend the night before your trip.  Then at the end of your rafting trip, you spend another night in our RV park.  This will give you time to explorer the surrounding area.  No fishing is allowed unless you also take a guided fishing trip.

Our full day scenic rafting trips are $375 for up to 4 people.

This shows the Gulkana River as if flows past our park.

Our scenic rafting trips can not guarantee what wild life you will see or the amount.

King Salmon Guides
Our trips leave from the Gulkana River RV Park located about 3 miles north of the Gakona junction at mile marker 132 on the Richardson Hwy.  The RV Park is private and only the owners, permit holders and guests are allowed in the Park.  Our King Salmon guided fishing trips include 2 nights stay in our Park in a river front RV space.

The 2008 season was great for king salmon on the Gulkana River.  Many of our guests were able to catch their limit from the private 750 foot shoreline of our RV Park.  Our guided fishing trips include two night in a river front RV space in our park.

Sockeye Salmon
After the King season ends on the 19th of July, we offer Sockeye salmon guided fishing trips.  The 2007 season saw a three fold increase in the number of Sockeye salmon over the four year average for the Gulkana River.
